  1. The finished product was very good. It is very important to weigh the flour as opposed to using a measuring cup. It seemed to have a couple more steps then the machine I had used previously, but the end results were very good. I have not had this machine very long and have not tried all the different cutters, but I do not expect any problems as long as I follow the directions.

  2. I’ve had a Simac MX 700 pasta maker for more years than I can remember and it worked well. A few years ago, my doctor changed my diet, and now I eat whole grain pasta. The problem was that my MX 700 could not handle whole grain. Like this PastaMaster, it recommended starting with 100% refined flour, but even its more advanced recipes were not whole grain, and the instructions said that the machine could not handle it.

I decided that this PastaMaster would be a good replacement. One of the reviews said that it’s good for 100% whole grain. I found a user manual on line, and it listed whole wheat bread and whole wheat bread sticks in the table of contents. Unfortunately, the on line manual did not include the recipe pages.

If I took a one quart bottle that was half filled with water, and poured in a pint of 100% orange juice, would I be able to say that my product was “made with 100% orange juice?” After all, one of the ingredients is 100% orange juice. Obviously, that’s irrelevant since it’s not 100% orange juice once it gets mixed with water. It would also be illegal for me to make that claim in the US if I sold it.

Lello is trying to pull the same sleight of hand. If you look up whole wheat in Wikipedia, it says that “whole” means that nothing is lost in the process of making the flour. It contains all the bran and germ that was there to begin with. Lello is using the “100% whole wheat is one of the ingredients…” line. If you mix whole wheat flour with refined flour, it’s no longer whole wheat by definition.

This machine cannot make whole wheat pasta. It cannot make any whole grain pasta. You end up using partially refined flour no matter what recipe you use. Even if you accepted their use of “whole wheat,” I cannot see how anybody could call something 100% whole grain when it’s mixed with refined grain.

If you are satisfied with pasta made from basic all purpose flour, or with limited things mixed into it, this machine really does do a good job. But it does not live up to their claims. I love fresh pasta and I loved the pasta that I’m sure this machine can make as well as my old one. But variety is more than making the same pasta in 10 different shapes.

If you do use the machine, follow the instructions carefully to get the mix right. It will give you the pasta you expect and do it well. It’s easy enough to make mistakes, but that’s not the machine’s fault. It will give you great pasta for as long as you remain satisfied with its scope.

Dry pasta does not match the texture you get from this machine, and all purpose flour does not match the taste you get from 100% whole wheat flour. The people who make the packaged pasta don’t act as if my expectations are ridiculous, and they only charge me 99 cents.

  3. The pasta maker works not as efficiency as I expected. Especially, the dough feeding mechanism has big problem. It almost could not feed dough down to extrusion chamber after the dough well-prepared.

  4. We loved this machine. After you finish finding out the right balance of flour and the liquid ingredients you will be able to get a great pasta from it. And you even can froze the pasta you prepared for later use.

    We definetily recommend.

  5. This was purchased as a Christmas gift. It has been used to make 3 of the pasta styles with excellent results. A little bit of “fine tuning” of the recipies was needed.
